Constructed from eight recycled shipping containers, Casa Incubo features an elegant update on sustainable building. Built to be completely sustainable, this modern new home was even constructed around a cedar tree to prevent it from being cut down in order to allow for the construction of the home. Designed by architect Maria José Trejos, this two-story home was built to serve a multitude of purposes. The owner of the home, a professional photographer, wanted the home to be designed so that it could be used not only as a residence but also as a studio and a home office.
At the center of the home is an expansive living area that can also double as a studio. The use of the centralized living space also offers the benefit of excellent cross ventilation. Once the shipping containers used in the design of the home were stacked on top of one another, they were ready to be used to form the home's kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The west side of the home features wall-to-wall windows, allowing for ample amounts of natural light, which helps to increase energy savings.
On the second floor, this distinctive home includes private bedrooms. The shipping containers used in the home's designs were also situated to include a terrace as well as a porch. When the property owner wishes to relax, there is also a rooftop garden on the third floor, which can be accessed via an outdoor set of stairs.
